I can imagine the perfect dialogue in an ad for Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey:

“You got your whiskey on my peanut butter!”

Yeah, the visuals might not work.

I don’t know the origin of Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey; but, I aim to find out after I wrap up this blog post (and have another taste of Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey, for research purposes, just to be sure). I do know how Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey came to me—by way of my friend, Julie, who knows the good stuff. Why don’t I let Julie tell you the story?

“I was first introduced to Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey by someone who suggested it since I like to enjoy my drinks straight. She also mixes Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey with grape schnapps. I prefer raspberry. The cocktail tastes just like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Not only does Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey go well with schnapps, but it also tastes awesome straight. The front label has the image of a sheep with the tagline, ‘To the Misfits, Black Sheep and Skrewballs.’ The inside label defines the Skrewball as ‘An individual who is not afraid to stray from the cliché things in life. A black sheep. One who has the courage to stand alone, but rarely does because their unique spirit attracts an open-minded krew. Skrewballs live life like no one is watching and fun follows them wherever they go.’ If you fit into those categories, as I do, and like peanut butter and whiskey, then you should try Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey. You will LOVE it!”

“The moist cake tastes very nice while the peanut butter frosting has a lot of flavor. The peanut butter cup accent is a great idea. I can’t wait to eat the second cupcake that is in the freezer!”

You’re probably thinking, “This is supposed to be a blog post about Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey. Why am I seeing cupcake photos?” Well, not everyone drinks, but everyone will enjoy the fun and flavor of Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey! Lisa and I decided to sample Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey five different ways: cupcakes, milkshakes, hot chocolate, cocktails, and straight. Oh, did something catch your eye? And to be sure that we were in concert with our appreciation of all the notes, Lisa and I entreated a few friends to sample the cupcakes and provide deeper background of their personal experience with Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey.

Lisa and I chose to tackle the most ambitious recipe first, the cupcakes. Also, because I was wanting cupcakes. Bad. Lisa put on her baker’s hat while I strapped on my camera. Lisa had found a sweet recipe from Sugarbelle Sweets. Scroll up to see the photos, read on to view the recipe.

Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey cupcakes:

Ingredients for frosting:

• 1 stick salted butter (room temperature)
• 1 cup creamy peanut butter
• 1 teaspoon vanilla
• 3/4 cup Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey
• 2 lb. bag powder sugar
• 3 tablespoons heavy whipping cream

Ingredients for cake:

• 1 box French vanilla cake
• 1 cup water
• 3 eggs
• 1/3 cup vegetable oil
• 1/2 cup sour cream
• 1 cup creamy peanut butter
• 1/2 cup flour
• 1/2 cup granulated sugar
• 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions for cake:

1. Preheat oven to 325F.
2. Blend all ingredients in a large bowl at low speed until smooth and moist.
3. Beat at medium speed for 3 minutes.
4. Line or dust cupcake pans.
5. Spoon cake batter into cupcake liners.
6. Bake for 16–19 minutes (cupcakes are done when a toothpick is inserted and comes out clean).
7. Let cool before frosting. Optional: drizzle Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey onto cupcakes.

Instructions for frosting:

1. Whip butter, peanut butter, vanilla and Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey in a large bowl until smooth.
2. Gradually add powder sugar and alternate heavy whipping cream. Note: adjust sugar for less sweetness.
3. Continue whipping on medium/high speed for 3 minutes or until everything is mixed well.
4. Spoon out frosting into a piping bag and frost cupcakes.

These came out quite nice. Piping the frosting was a bit of an adventure at first, but once Lisa got her dessert chef legs under her she was a piping, piping, piping! (Horns.) She’s a piping machine! We were so excited that we brought a few over to our friends Roy and Adele, who like their sweets but have a refined taste. I was curious to read their comments afterward. They didn’t take long! Roy wrote, “The moist cake tastes very nice while the peanut butter frosting has a lot of flavor. The peanut butter cup accent is a great idea. I can’t wait to eat the second cupcake that is in the freezer!” I was feeling all right that we did a good thing. Adele chimed in later, “What a fabulous treat! The cake is moist and not too sweet. The frosting is delicious. I love the Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey. Thank you for sharing this with us. Vacuum Boy (Roy) already ate the second cupcake!”

Why does that not surprise me?

“The cupcake presentation looks professional with uniform spirals of frosting crowned with a mini peanut butter cup. The cake is moist and flavorful with just a tingle of Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey. The frosting is sweet but flavorful. Peanut butter is a good palate match with whiskey!”

You know I must include my mom on anything sweet and good. She also likes her sweets and they also must be of quality. Calories are costly, so make them count! My mom was also quick to post her comments, “The cupcake tastes very good! The cake and frosting are nice and light. I taste Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey at the end, just enough to feel a slight, sweet and nutty burn. I’m glad I have more to eat!”

And my mom already scheduled her second cupcake for next evening’s dessert!

Of course, Lisa and I would never offer anyone bad cupcakes. We had already sampled these treats. We thought them just amazing! Lisa took a bite and said, “The cake is moist and light. The cake isn’t overly sweet, so it helps balance the sweetness of the frosting. The frosting isn’t heavy, even though it has peanut butter. I taste a hint of Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey as an afterburn!” I took a bite that almost took out my finger and said, “The cake is very light. There’s just a hint of peanut butter. The frosting is very smooth. This is much better than store bought cupcakes. The Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey adds a warm final note!” If these were ordinary cupcakes, they would’ve tasted fine. But the addition of Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey really enlivened these cupcakes to a higher level of excitement and flavor complexity.

Lisa and I also reached out to our friend “Movie” Sue, who has a discerning palate and good taste. We were anxious to read her opinion. “This is definitely not the milkshake from my childhood. I can definitely feel a kick from Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey! This is rich and decadent, but also refreshing. I love the chocolate syrup. The whipped cream gives it a nice finish.”

I don’t know about you but when it gets to be above 70 degrees, I think of ice cream. Since room temperature is 72 degrees, I’ve got ice cream on the brain a ton. Never one to really suffer brain freeze, I insisted that we plow ahead to taste test number two: milkshakes. Lisa found a dreamy milkshake recipe from Amber of Simply Made Recipes. Scroll up to see the photos, read on to view the recipe.

Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey milkshakes (yields 2):

Ingredients:

• 1/4 cup milk
• 4 cups vanilla ice cream
• 4 ounces Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey
• 2 tablespoons creamy peanut butter, plus more as an optional garnish
• 2 tablespoons chocolate syrup, plus more for garnish
• whipped cream
• chopped peanuts (optional garnish)

Instructions:

1. Add milk, vanilla ice cream, 2 tablespoons creamy peanut butter, 2 tablespoons chocolate syrup, and 4 ounces Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey in a blender.
2. Blend until smooth. More milk may be added for a lighter consistency.
3. Optional: garnish the rim of 2 hurricane or milkshake glasses with creamy peanut butter. Drizzle chocolate syrup along the inside of each glass.
4. Pour milkshake into glasses.
5. Top with whipped cream and chopped peanuts (optional).

Shifting gears, Lisa drove this ice cream treat all the way with me behind the camera again. Everything looked like the usual setup for a milkshake recipe except for one thing: Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey. I wondered how much of a difference it would make? I’m glad I used my inside voice when I thought that.

Lisa and I clinked our tall glasses and took a sip. Like two cats that smelled an open carton of fresh milk, our eyes were big as saucers as we looked at each other and started to babble excitedly. Luckily, my iPhone recorded the chatter. Lisa chittered, “This is definitely not the milkshake from my childhood. I can definitely feel a kick from Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey! This is rich and decadent, but also refreshing. I love the chocolate syrup. The whipped cream gives it a nice finish.” I chirped, “I really feel a good kick from Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey. I like the smooth texture of the peanut butter. And I like how well Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey goes with dark chocolate syrup. This is a milkshake for adults!” Like two cats that play when the parents are away, we were walking on air, not even bothering to sit down as we downed our milkshakes smooth and easy. This was easily the best milkshake I ever tasted.

“I really feel a good kick from Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey. I like the smooth texture of the peanut butter. And I like how well Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey goes with dark chocolate syrup. This is a milkshake for adults!”

Based on how good these milkshakes tasted, Lisa and I promised to make these milkshakes for everyone in the previous sample round who couldn’t taste them this time. That means we will have to taste these milkshakes again. AGAIN. (Sigh.) Oh, well.

Hell, yeah!

“I really like the contrast of hot and cold between the hot chocolate and whipped cream. The hot chocolate almost gives me a feeling of enjoying brandy, like something that warms you from the inside out. The Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey finish leaves me with a cozy feeling of being by the fireplace in fall or winter!”

On to taste test three of five. Hot chocolate is a drink we usually associate with winter. Given the wintry climate of our spring, we thought it might be a good idea to revisit this old favorite, but with a twist. Hot chocolate is the setup, while Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey is the spike. Lisa dug deep and came up with a nice recipe from Red Fermented Grapes. Scroll up to see the photos, read on to view the recipe.

Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey spiked peanut butter hot chocolate (yields 2):

Ingredients:

• 2 cups milk
• 4 tablespoons creamy peanut butter
• 2 tablespoons 100% cacao powder
• 2 teaspoons sugar
• 1/4 teaspoon salt
• 3 ounces Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey
• whipped cream (optional)

Instructions:

1. Heat milk in a saucepan over medium heat until steam starts to form. Do not boil the milk.
2. Reduce heat to low and whisk in cacao powder, creamy peanut butter, sugar, and salt.
3. Whisk until all ingredients are mixed well and the liquid is smooth. Remove from heat.
4. Pour one shot each of Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey into two mugs.
5. Add the hot chocolate to the mugs. The Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey should blend well enough, but stirring with a spoon to mix evenly is recommended.
6. Top with whipped cream (optional) and serve immediately.

When I say immediately, I mean IMMEDIATELY! The chilled whipped cream is like an iceberg shelf calving into the simmering ocean of hot chocolate. Also, account for liquid displacement in your choice of mug or glass since the melting whipped cream will cause the levels to rise. Save the hot chocolate!

Lisa and I sampled some hot chocolate off the table, our arms, and maybe our cats’ backs. But now it was time to take a sip for real. Lisa observed, “I really like the contrast of hot and cold between the hot chocolate and whipped cream. The hot chocolate almost gives me a feeling of enjoying brandy, like something that warms you from the inside out. The Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey finish leaves me with a cozy feeling of being by the fireplace in fall or winter!” I drew in a nice blend of cool cream and hot chocolate, and said, “I really like the hot chocolate with the cool whipped cream. This is a pleasant surprise. The cacao is the base, the peanut butter is the body, and Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey is the top note. This is almost like a hybrid of Irish whiskey and peanut butter hot chocolate. It’s very smooth with a nice kick in the tail!”

“I really like the hot chocolate with the cool whipped cream. This is a pleasant surprise. The cacao is the base, the peanut butter is the body, and Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey is the top note. This is almost like a hybrid of Irish whiskey and peanut butter hot chocolate. It’s very smooth with a nice kick in the tail!”

If you remember from my first blog post about Tala Coffee Roasters that I was a lightweight, drinking my Bourbon Vanilla Latte, then you probably guessed that I was reaching back for the ropes to steady myself. Not really, but I could feel the warmth from this spiked hot chocolate that showed off the punch of Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey. The complex interplay of peanut butter and whiskey mixed perfectly with the hot chocolate and chilled whipped cream. Winter will never be the same. I’m not going to wish that winter get here a little sooner, but at least I’ll have something else besides tea to keep me warm by the fireplace.

With summer on the way, we might be spending more time in the backyard or on the patio or balcony more than usual for awhile. Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey peanut butter and jelly cocktail (yields 1):

Ingredients for finished cocktail:

• 2 ounces Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey
• dash salt
• 1/2 ounce grape jelly simple syrup

Ingredients for grape jelly simple syrup:

• 1/4 cup grape jelly
• 1/4 cup water

Instructions for grape jelly simple syrup:

1. Combine water and grape jelly into small saucepan. Bring to a near boil, then turn off heat. Let cool.
2. Can be refrigerated for up to 2 weeks.

Instructions for finished cocktail:

1. Place ice or ice ball in a rock glass.
2. Pour in grape jelly simple syrup, then Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey.
3. Dash salt and stir until combined.
4. Garnish with a small square of PB&J.

Lisa and I were curious about trying Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey over ice and straight. We thought, “Why stop with ice? There must be a fun way to dress it up!” You can’t have the PB without the J. It’s everyone’s go-to food or snack. But how about as a garnish? As a drink?

This cocktail turned out beautifully. The small square garnish of PB&J was easy enough along with the rest of the drink. This was the easiest recipe to make and maybe the most fun to enjoy. It also gave us the best insight about the influence and versatility of Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey mixed in recipes. Lisa took a sip and bite(!) and said, “This is amazing! The Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey cocktail tastes just like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. It’s cool and refreshing.” I followed up, “I don’t believe it! This smells like peanut butter and jelly. It tastes of grape and Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey. I really like the suspended grape jelly in the drink. This is fun and summery. Having a bite of the little PB&J sandwich and a sip of the cocktail extends the experience. You’re eating and drinking it!” Who knew how fun it would be to drink and eat a drink?

“I don’t believe it! This smells like peanut butter and jelly. It tastes of grape and Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey. I really like the suspended grape jelly in the drink. This is fun and summery. Having a bite of the little PB&J sandwich and a sip of the cocktail extends the experience. You’re eating and drinking it!”

I’m really happy and satisfied that Lisa and I created four taste sensations from four different recipes, and that we shared the cupcakes with so many of our inner circle. We’ll be sharing the other recipes with them as soon as we are able. The flavor combination of peanut butter and whiskey is pure genius. The recipes that follow might be mad genius; but, if you don’t push the boundaries, you will never know how far you can go or where or who you want to be. I know who I am just as well as everyone in our krew. We’re Skrewballs. D*mn right!

We saved the best for last. Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey won the day every time. I actually want to see what it can do to spice up other recipes. Be a mad genius. Embrace your inner Skrewball and let yourself shine.

Outside was the perfect environment to appreciate the body of Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey in pure sunshine. The golden, amber, almost caramel color is beautiful to behold. The body swirls around smooth with just a little bit of weight. Oh, before I go on about Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey tasted straight, I should tell you about another friend, Michelle, who primed us with her own introduction to Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey and her appreciation.

Michelle was over on a visit one day when she noticed a bottle of Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey sitting on the top of our bar. She said something like, “What are you doing with Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey? You don’t even drink?!?” Lisa said something like, “How do you know about Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey? You drink it? How does it taste?”

“WOW…this is surprisingly good! I am usually not a whiskey drinker but Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey is really tasty! Who would have thought peanut butter and whiskey, but it definitely works…smooth. This is my new favorite. My mom loves it and she doesn’t even drink. Yummy is an understatement. I love the story behind the brand. This is not your dad’s whiskey. You gotta try it chilled! This is great in hot chocolate, shakes and sauces. This stuff is dangerous…in a good way!”

And Michelle said this in one breath—such is the passion for Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey.

Lisa and I were more than ready to try Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey straight. It’s a favorite way to enjoy it, according to our friends Julie and Michelle. Lisa took a deep sip and said, “Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey almost smells like caramel, even a little buttery. It shows off a clear golden color. Oh, the texture is very smooth! We have no training, formal or informal, about appraising the subtle nuances of flavors, but we like what we like; and, the power of impression moves us to effectively articulate the framework of the experience. You get the idea. Now get the Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey and go on with your mad genius. The ranks of Skrewballs is about to increase, and we can’t be stopped.
