Maple syrup hikes and demonstrations return at Ryerson Conservation Area in Riverwoods!
Late winter might appear to be still, but activity is returning everywhere!
The dark notch on the left is the impression left from the metal spile used to drain the maple water from the sugar maple tree into the bucket!
The bucket is collecting maple water from this sugar maple tree!
This silver maple is starting to bud, signaling the end of maple syrup season for this year!
Maple syrup (left) is made from maple water (right), at a ratio of 40 gallons of maple water to one container of maple syrup!
The firewood is ready to glow!
The wood is seasoned inside AND outside of this shed!
The fire is stoked for the maple syrup evaporator at Ryerson Conservation Area in Riverwoods!
