The name, “Half Day,” belongs to a town, road, and brewing company in Illinois. Over the years, the origin of this name has been mistakenly defined as a half-day’s horse and carriage ride to Chicago, and a chief named, “Hefda,” whose name was modernized as, “Half Day.”
Neither of these folk tales are true. It turns out that today, Scott, Lisa, and I lived out the namesake of this brewery, enjoying handcrafted house beers and fresh recipes served round the clock from the kitchen.
A half day later—we stepped out, satisfied, into a brand new day.

Scott’s Beer of the Day went to the Hazelnut and Blueberry Coffee Stout. Lisa liked best the 2024 Barrel Aged Imperial Stout. Since I was the designated driver, my food of the day had to be the Carrot Cake. Since it’s me driving this buggy, there’s nothing that won’t stop me from circling the wagon back to Half Day Brewing Company. We know the truth about the name.

I was just settling in with a miller light myself and listening to some chet baker when i saw your post hit the timeline. thank you for yet another vibrant and exquisite gallery. it’s all about perspective indeed, and if you choose to view simple luxuries through the most crisp, most clarifying lens of life the results you get is 100x worth an expensive luxury experienced in haste.

In my childhood, and for many years onward, it was a practice for retail businesses to close for a “half day” during the week – Thursday being the day locally but it was Wednesday in other parts of the country.

Oh, yes, that’s right. When I was a kid, most businesses closed mid-afternoon on Sundays. And Sunday mornings people were busy with services.

These pictures are so good. The citrusy one is beer? It looks more like juice.

Yep! Had a grapefruit/orange twist on it!

That is a novelty. Does it feel like drinking beer?

My friend had it. He said it tasted like a beer with a top note of citrus. He loved it!

The brewpub looks impressive with its many taps. But since I’m not a beer drinker, the food appeals to me more. Especially the Bavarian pretzels and the dessert! No bear necessary for happiness. 😊🥨🍰
