I asked everyone for their thoughts. Mom: “I would like to relax for the weekend in St. Joseph. It’s a short drive from Chicago. I like walking on the sand and listening to the sound of the waves. There’s nice restaurants, boutiques, cafes, and ice cream shops. St. Joe is my kind of place!” Lisa: “St. Joe is a Lake Michigan oasis with a beach town vibe. There’s lots of good food, fun shops, and even its own lighthouse!” And Me: “St. Joseph is a picturesque beachfront town that looks and feels like a summer vacation postcard. It’s close to major metro areas, so it’s a welcoming destination for so many visitors!”

Visiting the pier and lighthouse (even vicariously) makes it easy to imagine that one is traveling back in time. I suspect the beautiful old map helps create that impression.

Yes, and stepping into the restored old lighthouse also helped us appreciate the death-defying hard work it took just to keep it operational, all day and night!

Great post. I like to go blueberry and raspberry picking in Michigan. I haven’t been to St Joseph, nice photos. Did you go for the day or spend the night there?

I spent the day in Michigan picking blueberries, then the rest of the day in St. Joe. I, too, have picked raspberries as well. Love the red scratches on the arms and hands! You would love St. Joseph whether you go for a day or a weekend getaway! 🏖️

Perfect place to relax! The water and the beach relax me a lot, I like to spend time there all day. An evening walk along the beach, when I am wrapped in a delicate cashmere shawl, is always very relaxing for me.
