“Each year, the Great Pumpkin rises out of the pumpkin patch that he thinks is the most sincere. He’s gotta pick this one. He’s got to. I don’t see how a pumpkin patch can be more sincere than this one. You can look around and there’s not a sign of hypocrisy. Nothing but sincerity as far as the eye can see.”

“Jerry Smith Farm is a great place for families!”
This time of year brings fall colors and the annual urge to pick apples and search for the perfect pumpkin. We did neither. Instead we experienced camel rides, full-size dioramas, live DJ music, a country store, baby goats, apple cider floats, and even more to float your goat.
Lisa, my mom and I picked the most windy day to try and stand still outside in the middle of unusually warm currents and waves of excited kids everywhere. We walked around Jerry Smith Farm, known for its orange infinity pool of pumpkins, towering pyramid of colorful gourds, fully-stocked country store, diorama photo opps, available petting zoo, and Apple Cider Floats. Everything but the petting zoo and camel rides were free. How else could you describe Fall at the Farm such as this?
We were amazed to see so much creativity and zeal for the season put into the maze of life-size spooky dioramas. These made for perfect photo opportunities for families and anyone wanting to step into a scene from their favorite live-action movie or animation. Almost all of Jerry Smith Farm is free, including parking. There is no admission, just walk up and be. There is an optional small-fee area beyond the main area where everyone can enjoy a petting zoo and other family activities. The free main area is plenty good to fill a day, and satisfy appetites for fun and refreshments. We were able to feed the baby goats on the border of main and optional, so a sample of the extra fun could be appreciated.
“There’s a lot of pumpkins and displays!”
Before I visit any place, I conduct some careful research. People online raved about a couple menu items. I needed to check out the famous Apple Cider Float and Frosted Cookies, sugar and chocolate chip. It was a warm day, so I dove into the Apple Cider Float with the apple cider doughnut balanced on the center of my face like a seal. Me: “The Apple Cider Float is overflowing with their best in a cup: whipped cream with sprinkles, caramel drizzle, apple cider doughnut, vanilla ice cream, and of course, apple cider!” Bark bark!
Lisa and my mom thought the Apple Cider Float might be a bit rich for their tastes, so we all tried the famous Frosted Cookies. My mom: “The famous frosted cookies have a mellow flavor perfect for fall!” Lisa: “I like their chocolate chip cookies best!” And me: “I like their sugar cookie best—a smooth almond taste with a hint of pumpkin in the frosting!” Jerry, we need a satellite drive-thru south of the Cheddar Curtain.
“The Apple Cider Float is overflowing with their best!”
We summed up the day. Mom: “Jerry Smith Farm has a lot to see! Everywhere I look I see something different. There’s a lot of pumpkins and displays. I can spend all day looking at everything!” Lisa: “The creativity put into all the Halloween exhibits is amazing! Jerry Smith Farm is a great place for families: petting zoo, food and drinks, the outdoors, and more. I’m surprised to see a camel ride. My favorite part is feeding the baby goats!” And me: “Jerry Smith Farm has a lot of good photo opps! The store is stocked with a variety of seasonal produce, treats, and souvenirs!”

I must add that the environment at Jerry Smith Farm was relaxed and genuinely warm. You might even say it’s sincere. But that’s not for me to say. Linus: “Dear Great Pumpkin, I am looking forward to your arrival on Halloween night. I hope you will bring me lots of presents.”
Three ghostly sheets to the wind: “I get knocked down. But I get up again. You’re never gonna keep me down!”

I can’t believe I haven’t been there yet either, especially since it’s so close to home. Every time I plan to go with my family, something gets in the way. Thank you for sharing those amazing photos—they really inspire me to finally get out and explore. I might even try and make it out this weekend, weather permitting.

Hi, Laura! Thank you for checking in. You would love the food, drinks, and fall fun. I know there isn’t fall proper where you are, but maybe a day trip to the Big Bend/Panhandle where I went to school would give you a taste of fall colors, just a touch. 🍁

Thanks for sharing that! Nice to know you went to school up there! Definitely not fall proper, but it’s still my absolutely favorite 😊 thanks for the suggestion as well 🙏 🍁

What a cool place – Halloween being my favorite time of the year and all. Especially like the selfie stations – that is a good idea to add to our haunted trail next year.

Are you kidding? It would be nice to have Halloween TWICE a year, like Christmas in July. Halloween in April? That would be the halfway point, in which case you would be early! 🎃🐇

You could be the one to introduce Halloween in April. The makers of candy and decorations would be very supportive of your suggestion! 🙂

Oh, thank you! Maybe belt makers would also benefit. 🤔
